Women in Street
Exhibition Synopsis
Through Her Lens: Australian Stories
This collection brings together work by twelve female photographers who practice street photography across Australia. All are members of Women in Street and the Unexposed Collective, international communities dedicated to supporting female street photographers. From Perth to Broken Hill, Sydney to Melbourne, their images document the events and places that make up contemporary Australian life.
These photographers have captured a diverse range of subjects—community gatherings, public celebrations, Mardi Gras parades, Pride events, and everyday moments that reveal how Australians live and celebrate. Their work shows a country that embraces gender diversity and freedom of expression, finding vibrant voice through public life and community events.
Australia's diverse character is evident throughout these images. As a nation largely shaped by immigration, the visual richness captured by these twelve photographers reflects this history whilst celebrating their shared connection to place.
The photographs in this exhibition serve as both a record of contemporary Australian life and individual artistic responses to it. Taken together, they offer a distinctly female perspective on street photography in Australia, showing how women see and interpret the public spaces and cultural events around them.
This collection invites viewers to consider Australia through the eyes of these twelve artists—to see familiar scenes with fresh perspective and to appreciate the visual richness of everyday Australian life.
