オリンピックイヤーが始まりました。
FRAME TOKYOのプロジェクトも始まります。
Now the Olympic year has started, so does the "2020 FRAME TOKYO PROJECT"!!!
2020年。東京オリンピックがいよいよ開催される。
今から56年前の1964年に東京で初めてオリンピックが開催された。
まだ生まれてもいなかったが、当時を撮影した数多くの写真や映像の記録が、今でも東京の変容ぶりを伝えてくれる。写真や映像の価値はまさにそこにあると思えた。
The first Olympics was 56 years ago back in 1964, and the photos and videos from those days teach us how much the city has changed. I think that very thing is one of the greatest things about photography.
改めて思う写真の価値
Re-thinking the value of photography
写真や映像には思い出を記録するというパーソナルな価値、光や影が織りなすその瞬間の美しさを定着させるアートとしての価値、そして常に変わり続ける世の中とそこに生きる人々の生活を記録するというドキュメントとしての価値、と様々な側面での価値があると思うが、根底にあるのは”過ぎゆくその時をいつでも遡りその光景を見ることができる”つまり”残す”という価値ではないかと思う。
この価値に触れることで、人はいつでも”その時”を感じることができるのだから。
もし世の中に一枚の写真も映像もなければ、僕たちは自分たちの過去を文書という言葉から想像するしか術がないだろうし、過去の美しい光景や薄らいていく思い出を再度目にすることも出来ない。共有することも出来ない。
そんな世の中がどんな世界になっているのか想像すらできません。
写真や映像があるのが当たり前の世界に生きている中で東京オリンピックイヤーを迎え、
過去の東京オリンピックに意識を向けたことで、改めてその価値を感じました。
Photography and video indeed have various values - sometimes it can be personal when somebody takes photos to remember memories, or artistic when somebody expresses the beauty of light and shade - or rather as documentary archives to record the life of people living at the time.
However, there is one coherent value which lay on the fundamental part of each of these values, and that is, to "record the moment", so that people can go back to the very moment and see the same view, despite the passage of time.
People can feel the very moment anytime, by having a relationship with this value.
How much beautiful or memory it is, without photography or video, people cannot witness the view which does not exist by our own eyes.
今しかできないPROJECT
A project meant to start now
その気持ちの中から生まれたプロジェクトが「23区Project」。
FRAME TOKYOのメンバーと23区を渡り歩き、それぞれの眼差しで最初の東京オリンピックイヤーから56年経ち、２度目のオリンピックイヤーを迎えた東京を”残して”いくProjectです。
一体どんな東京が残るのか分かりませんが、歩き初めます。

This thinking brought us to start a project, "23-ward project".
It is a project that FRAME TOKYO members record Tokyo by the perspectives of each member.
Not knowing what to be captured, we start wondering Tokyo street with cameras in our hands.
