In this new project, the members of FRAME TOKYO interview each other to find out who they are that they don't usually talk about. In the fourth interview , Shoko.S interviews Shingo Chill, who always makes us chill out .
Shoko:
Today I will be speaking with Shingo for our fourth Frame Tokyo member interview. Hi Shingo!
Shingo:
Hi Shoko ! How's going on?
Shoko:
I want to ask you about your nema. A word, Chill, is usd for your name, right?
Shingo:
Yeah I use it. lol
Shoko:
I get the impression that you are very free from that, but where does that atmosphere come from? For example, do you have other hobbies or things you like...
Shingo:
first of all, I have tried to set up my account with my last name. But I couldn't because it was already used...
Then I have changed one character and I made it. I feel it is good and it is meaningful.
Shoko:
What are you influenced by other sense of word, chill?
Shingo:
Well, I love music and movies. For me, photography is more recent new thing I have started. When I read Yume's previous interview, she mentioned Snoop Dogg. Old, middle and new school... I like black music in general.
Shoko:
That is cool! So you get very well with Yume right?
Shingo:
Yeah. I think I have some things I can emphasize with her.
Shingo:
I recently watched the movie “Paterson”. I love Jim Jarmusch. I also like “Shortcuts” (Director: Robert Altman, Author: Raymond Carver) and similar movies as well.
Shoko:
I see. It's so fresh to hear artists and work names that I don't know at all! I think there are still many things I have never known.
Shoko:
let's move on to next question. I want to ask you how do you feel when you photograph. I know some of photographers take photos with empty mind. I am so curious what do you think or feel when you take photos. I think it may be changed depending on situation or your life...etc.
Shingo:
I have talked with Takeshi about same topic before, and I could not find clear answer in my mind at that time. Then I have continued to seek of it, but I couldn't...
Shoko:
I also have had conversations with Takeshi about similar topic before, and I thought that topic was so difficult
to answer clearly.
Shingo:
Then I decided to write down my favorite words and poems in a notebook intuitively because I felt It was difficult to find clear answer to continue thinking of it.
I hoped I could get something. Of course, I can't finish it in one day, so I tried to add words little by little when I notice. When I tried it for a while, something like a vague keyword came to my mind.
Shoko:
What was the word you came up with?
Shingo:
It was a word, " Circle." So if I am asked like, " are you shooting with the theme of "circle?" I think that is not the case. I have a keyword called "circle" at the root of my work, and it influences my photography in some way or another.
I think that's what it means.
Shoko:
What kind of image of the word, Circle, do you have?
Shingo:
If I say simply, there is a poem, "the south wind eventually climbs the mountains in the spring and becomes a warm rain that wets the soil,” and I really love it.
I think there are things like this in the flow of the world and in the connections between people.
Shoko:
What else do you have?
Shingo:
It is not related with thoght, and I have been trying to take photos using 50mm crop. I usually use 35mm crop, but I haven't used 50mm crop so much before. Other things, I'm trying to change the fine adjustment of the finish to develop my works little by little.
Shoko:
Cool. This is my last question. Tell us about your future plan.
Shingo:
Last year, I did a lot of research on cameras in my own way. I was like, What is a manual? at that time.
A plan I have now is to look at many photo books. Looking at one photo book monthly, and I get to know 12 photographers a year.
Shoko:
Wow! That is so good plan! let me know when you finish.
Shoko:
I was so glad to hear about your talk.Thank you so much and let's continue enjoying photography with me!
Shingo:
Of course! Thanks Shoko and see you soon.
In the next issue, Kyosuke Hamao will interview Takumi Sekuguchi.
Look forward to it!
