​Description

This photograph was taken during a photographic expedition to the Andes Mountains in Ayacucho, Peru, in 2024. It depicts an Indigenous woman walking through the city center, passing in front of a Catholic church. The image highlights the enduring tensions of colonial history, suggesting that the process of colonization continues to shape contemporary society.

Biography

He began his career in photography in the mid-1980s and has since developed a wide range of authorial projects. He is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Cariri and holds the following academic qualifications: a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Aesthetic Research, UNAM (2016–2017); a PhD in Multimedia from UNICAMP (2003–2007); and a Master’s degree in Sociology from UNESP (2000–2002). As a photographer, he has participated in more than 60 solo and group exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. His work has received 14 photography awards, including six international honors.
